A year-long Grade 2 mathematics learning path for students in Calgary, aligned with the Alberta Program of Studies. Across four approximately 15-day topics, students develop number sense, computational fluency, algebraic thinking, measurement and spatial reasoning, fractions, and data literacy through concrete materials, visual models, mathematical language, problem solving, and real-world applications.

Over approximately 15 days, students represent, read, write, compare, and order whole numbers to 1,000 using concrete materials, place-value charts, base-ten blocks, number lines, and standard notation. They investigate the value of digits in the hundreds, tens, and ones places; skip-count by 2s, 5s, 10s, 25s, and 100s; and use estimation to judge whether answers are reasonable. Students develop efficient mental and written strategies for addition and subtraction within 100 and extend those strategies to numbers within 1,000. They solve one- and two-step problems involving addition and subtraction, explain their thinking with pictures, models, equations, and words, and select appropriate tools and strategies. The topic concludes with an applied performance task using a Calgary-themed budget, collection, or classroom supply problem.
