A year-long Grade 6 Mathematics curriculum organized into four approximately 15-day units. The sequence develops number sense and operations first, then algebraic reasoning, geometry, measurement, data analysis, and probability. Learning emphasizes problem solving, mathematical communication, representation, estimation, reasoning, and connections to authentic Alberta contexts, consistent with Edmonton Public Schools practice and the Alberta Grade 6 Mathematics Program of Studies.

Students develop flexible understanding of numbers and operations. They read, represent, compare, and order whole numbers to one billion and decimals to thousandths using place-value charts, number lines, expanded notation, and benchmarks. Students investigate factors, multiples, prime and composite numbers, and divisibility rules. They apply order of operations and solve multi-step problems involving whole numbers and decimals. The unit also connects improper fractions, mixed numbers, equivalent fractions, decimals, ratios, rates, and percents through visual models and real-world situations such as shopping, sports statistics, recipes, and scaling. Instruction includes mental mathematics, estimation, written algorithms, manipulatives, and explanation of solution strategies.
