A four-topic Grade 6 Science learning path aligned with the Alberta Program of Studies and Calgary Board of Education inquiry-based learning priorities. Each topic is designed for approximately 15 instructional days and includes hands-on investigation, evidence-based reasoning, collaboration, design, and communication. Students progressively develop scientific inquiry skills while studying air and aerodynamics, flight, sky science, and evidence and investigation.

Students investigate air as matter and explore its observable and measurable properties, including mass, volume, pressure, temperature, and movement. Through demonstrations and fair tests, students examine how air behaves when compressed or heated and how air pressure creates effects such as lift, suction, and resistance. Students connect their observations to weather, living things, and everyday technologies. The topic emphasizes making predictions, identifying variables, recording quantitative and qualitative data, and explaining conclusions using scientific evidence. Learning culminates in the design and testing of a device that demonstrates one or more properties of air.
