A six-topic Grade 8 Mathematics learning path aligned with the Alberta Programs of Study as implemented within the Calgary Board of Education. Each topic is designed for approximately 10 instructional days and combines conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, problem solving, mathematical communication, technology use, and real-world application.

Students develop fluency with rational numbers, including integers, fractions, decimals, and percents. They investigate perfect squares and square roots, estimate non-perfect square roots, compare and order rational numbers, and apply multiplication and division of positive fractions and decimals to practical problems. Students also use ratios, rates, equivalent ratios, percent increase and decrease, discounts, commissions, taxes, and simple interest to interpret and solve real-world situations. Emphasis is placed on selecting efficient strategies, estimating to check reasonableness, and explaining solutions using appropriate mathematical vocabulary and representations.
