A six-unit, 60-day Grade 8 mathematics curriculum aligned with the Alberta Programs of Study commonly used by Edmonton Public Schools. The sequence develops number sense, proportional reasoning, algebraic thinking, geometry, measurement, statistics, and probability through conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, problem solving, communication, and real-world application.
6 topics · 90 questions total
Over approximately 10 days, students strengthen their understanding of rational numbers and extend it to powers, perfect squares, and square roots. They will compare and order positive and negative rational numbers, represent rational values on number lines, apply integer-exponent notation, evaluate powers, identify perfect squares, estimate square roots of non-perfect squares, and use calculators strategically to check reasonableness. Students will connect symbolic, pictorial, and concrete representations while explaining their reasoning in mathematical language.
