A year-long Grade 4 Science learning path aligned with the Alberta Science Program of Studies as implemented by the Calgary Board of Education. Across four approximately 15-day topics, students investigate how materials affect the environment, how wheels and levers make work easier, how devices and vehicles are designed to move, and how light behaves and can be used. Students develop inquiry, observation, measurement, design, communication, and evidence-based reasoning skills through hands-on investigations and engineering challenges.

Over approximately 15 days, students investigate the types, sources, and effects of waste in their homes, schools, and communities. They classify materials according to observable properties and investigate how materials can be reduced, reused, recycled, composted, or safely disposed of. Students explore how human choices affect local and global environments, consider the life cycle of common products, and use evidence to propose realistic waste-reduction strategies for the school or classroom. Learning emphasizes fair testing, data collection, systems thinking, environmental responsibility, and communicating recommendations to an authentic audience.
