A four-part, approximately 60-day learning path aligned with the Alberta Grade 1 Mathematics curriculum used by the Calgary Board of Education. Students develop foundational number sense, fluency with addition and subtraction, understanding of patterns and equality, spatial reasoning, measurement, time, data representation, and mathematical problem-solving. Learning is hands-on, visual, collaborative, and connected to everyday contexts.

Across approximately 15 days, students build number sense from 0 to 100. They count forward and backward, represent numbers using concrete materials, pictures, numerals, ten frames, and number lines, and develop an understanding of one more, one less, ten more, and ten less. Students compare and order numbers using language such as greater than, less than, and equal to. They investigate repeating patterns using objects, sounds, movements, colours, and numbers; identify the pattern rule; extend patterns; and create and translate patterns between representations. The topic emphasizes explaining thinking, noticing regularity, and connecting patterns to counting and place value.
