Across approximately 15 days, students develop a strong understanding of whole numbers from 0 to 100. They count forward and backward by 1s, 2s, 5s, and 10s; represent numbers using concrete materials, drawings, ten-frames, and numerals; identify numbers before, after, and between; compare quantities using greater than, less than, and equal to; and order numbers. Learning should emphasize place-value ideas through groups of tens and ones, number lines, and meaningful contexts such as classroom collections, games, and daily schedules. Students explain their thinking using mathematical language and choose appropriate representations to solve problems.

Recommended Tasks
  • Create a personal number book from 0 to 100, showing selected numbers with a numeral, number word, ten-and-one representation, drawing, and position on a number line.
  • Complete a classroom “Which Has More?” investigation by comparing collections of objects, recording comparison statements, and explaining how the comparison was determined.
  • Play partner games such as Number Line Race, Mystery Number, or Build-and-Compare using cards, connecting cubes, ten-frames, and place-value mats.
