A six-topic, approximately 60-day Grade 8 mathematics curriculum aligned with the major strands of the Alberta Mathematics Program of Studies and designed for the Calgary Board of Education context. Students develop conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, mathematical communication, problem-solving strategies, and the ability to apply mathematics to authentic situations.
6 topics · 75 questions total
Students develop fluency with integers, fractions, decimals, and rational numbers, using number lines and visual models to compare and order values. They investigate powers, perfect squares, perfect cubes, square roots, and cube roots, and learn to estimate roots that are not whole numbers. Students apply the order of operations, including exponents, to solve and explain multi-step numerical problems. Approximately 10 days should include diagnostic review, guided practice, problem solving, and a cumulative assessment.
