A four-topic, approximately 60-day Grade 5 Mathematics learning path aligned with Alberta Programs of Study outcomes commonly used within the Calgary Board of Education. Students develop mathematical reasoning through concrete materials, visual models, discussion, problem solving, practice, and real-world applications.
4 topics · 40 questions total
Across approximately 15 days, students develop fluency and conceptual understanding with whole numbers to 1,000,000, including reading, representing, comparing, ordering, rounding, estimating, and solving multi-step problems. They use place-value reasoning and standard algorithms to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, while explaining the reasonableness of answers. Students also connect fractions, decimals, and visual models; compare and order fractions with related denominators; represent decimals to thousandths; and add and subtract decimals to hundredths in meaningful contexts. Lessons emphasize multiple strategies, mental mathematics, estimation, mathematical vocabulary, and clear written communication.
