Students investigate air and water as essential parts of the natural environment and as resources used by people, plants, and animals. They will observe visible and invisible properties of air, explore how moving air can affect objects, compare different sources and forms of water, and examine how water moves through the environment. Students will distinguish between observations and explanations, record results using drawings, labels, charts, and simple measurements, and discuss responsible ways to conserve and protect air and water. The topic emphasizes safety, local environmental connections, and the development of questions that can be investigated through fair tests.
